Extreme Heat Guide - Enhancement of the ‘Extreme Heat Guide for Local Government in SA’ (Nov 2016) (“the Guide”)

Feedback through the LGASA’s Council Ready program indicates that councils are unsure of their roles and responsibilities about extreme heat, and seek opportunities to support their communities.
The project includes development  of a Guide and an app to allow councils to input data about responses to extreme heat emergencies to capture data at a State incident management level.

The project involves purchase and installation of a fully automated Permanent Weather Station in close proximity to the Rockleigh CFS station.

This program will deliver a resilience-building workshop for school staff and children and their families. Enabling all participants to have a resilient means of communication and connection with one another aids a more effective and efficient post-disaster recovery.

Roles and Responsibilities for Organisations Providing Services to People at Risk

This project will clarify roles and responsibilities of CSO’s in PPRR by developing a matrix of responsibilities for CSO’s according to level of responsibility, including moral/societal obligation in addition to contractual or formal requirements in the responsibilities matrix. SACOSS will operationalise stage 1 and 2 by holding workshops with CSO’s in the 7 locations.

The SAVEM Communications 2019-2020 strategy will implement a completely new on-line presence to fully inform the public, partner agencies and hazard leaders about SAVEM’s role and with all stakeholders during an all-hazards emergency incident embracing whole of community.

Town of Gawler Council will develop and implement an interactive online local emergency management and information sharing portal that will provide the community with up to date information concerning emergency risks such as fire, flood and catastrophic events.

The Disaster Resilience Education Project

The Disaster Resilience Education Project will develop materials and a training module for disaster resilience education. The project will leverage our existing financial literacy program and be delivered by UC’s Financial Inclusion workers to the 3,500+ low income and vulnerable community members across metro and regional South Australia we engage with annually.

Expansion of Fire Danger Index Alerting Network in Northern SA

This project aims to compliment the recently approved Northern Sustainable Soils Weather Station Network for community alerting project by installing an additional 16 weather stations across the upper northern area of the state encompassing an area from Port Augusta – Crystal Brook – Burra – Peterborough that will provide near real time weather information for the community to use to make management decisions.

Building Regional Volunteer Capacity

In collaboration with Red Cross, we aim to build volunteering capacity of emergency services agencies and organisations in regional areas of South Australia through a collaborative inter-agency approach to recruitment, on boarding and engagement.
