Fire Danger Season and Operation Nomad launch |
|||||
The 2009/10 Fire Danger Season was officially launched at Belair National Park on 1 December 2009, marking the start of the fire danger season in Kangaroo Island, Mount Lofty Ranges and the Adelaide Metropolitan fire ban districts, bringing the entire State under fire restrictions until April 2010.
Emergency Services Minister Michael Wright was joined by CFS Chief Officer Euan Ferguson and SAPOL Assistant Commissioner Brian Fahy to address a strong media contingent and issue timely advice to the community.
The launch also marked the start of SAPOL's highly successful Operation Nomad program. The program will see dedicated patrols closely monitor assigned areas for suspicious behaviour and persons of interest in an effort to minimise arson. Representatives attended from the CFS, MFS, SES, SAPOL, Department for Environment and Heritage (DEH), ForestrySA, Bureau of Meteorology, SA Water and Department of Education and Children's Services. The launch was set with an impressive backdrop of the SAPOL Polair helicopter and 12 trucks from the respective fire fighting agencies. Appliances at the Fire Danger Season launch.
