Alert SA - Telephone emergency warning system

Friday 4 December saw the launch of the national Emergency Alert telephone warning system which will allow emergency services to send a warning voice message to landlines, and text message to mobiles in the event of a major emergency.

South Australia was given the Emergency Alert product on Tuesday 2 December and has now begun testing and implementing it in the state.

South Australia has also developed a dedicated major emergency website www.alert.sa.gov.au, a recorded information line - 1800 ALERTS - and call centre to support Emergency Alert by ensuring people can get accurate, up to date emergency information.

South Australia's warning system, including Emergency Alert, will be called Alert SA and the South Australian Government has committed $12.4 million over the next five years to implement it.

A full test of Alert SA will be carried out on Kangaroo Island between Monday December 14 and Wednesday December 16.Once all testing has been completed, it is the aim of the team to launch the system in South Australia before the end of December.
