Vale MFS Senior Firefighter Peter Hall

The attention of all emergency services sector staff and volunteers is drawn to the passing of retired Senior Firefighter Peter Hall on Monday 1 February 2010.

Peter joined the MFS in 1979 and worked in Operations at Adelaide, O'Halloran Hill and Pt Pirie stations.

Following many years as a reliever for the MFS Public Relations Officer, Peter joined the Community Education Section in 2004 where he pioneered the introduction of the Road Awareness and Accident Prevention (RAAP) Program. With drive and passion Peter delivered the program to Year 11 students across the state with the assistance of rescue crews from the MFS, CFS and SES. Statistics show that road crashes are the number one cause of death for 16 to 24 year olds throughout Australia, and in the first four years of the RAAP Program here in SA, road fatalities in this age group dropped significantly.

During his career Peter also participated in several Variety Club bashes raising money for charity, and he was an inaugural committee member for the Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation.

In 2006 Peter was awarded the Australian Fire Services Medal for his endeavours in prevention and community safety. Peter retired in September 2009.

Condolences from the emergency services sector have been passed on to Mrs Annie Hall and Peter's family.
