Shape it. Strengthen it. Refresh of South Australia's Disaster Resilience Strategy (2026-2030)

Australia’s disaster landscape is becoming increasingly complex, with recent events highlighting the cascading and compounding impacts of hazards across communities and systems.

Strengthening disaster resilience and reducing risk is a shared, long-term commitment that requires collective action across government, industry, and communities. It is not a one-off effort, but an ongoing process of learning, adapting, and improving over time.

In 2019, South Australia released Stronger Together, the State’s first Disaster Resilience Strategy. Since then, more than 180 initiatives have been delivered to strengthen resilience and reduce disaster risk across the state.

The Strategy is being refreshed for the period 2026 – 2030 to reflect systems thinking, current and emerging risks, climate change, changing community needs, and lessons learned from recent disasters.

SAFECOM are leading this work.

To support the refresh, the State Government has established a working group consisting of senior leaders from across government and non-government organisations. This group provides expertise, supports collaboration and helps inform implementation actions for the refreshed Strategy.
