Mark Stratton, MAICD
A/Chief Executive, South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission
With more than 40 years of experience across policing, national and state protective security, emergency management, disaster recovery, youth justice, child protection, and community services, Mark Stratton is a seasoned leader dedicated to strengthening safety, resilience, and community wellbeing.
As an executive member of the South Australian Emergency Services Sector, Mark is responsible for collaborating with partner emergency services agencies (CFS, MFS and SES) and coordinating the strategic and policy frameworks that govern the emergency services sector.
Over two decades of his career have been spent living and working in remote, regional, and diverse communities, shaping his inclusive and community-first leadership approach. He has held senior executive roles including Acting Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive of the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM), where he has led strategic direction, governance, risk and performance, protective security, volunteer services, and sector-wide operational support. His leadership has also spanned disaster recovery operations—including the 2019/2020 bushfires—across state, national, and international frameworks.
Beyond his professional career, Mark contributes through extensive volunteer and board service, supporting health and community organisations, disability services, youth groups, and the South Australian State Emergency Service.
An avid scuba diver and adventurer, he is also a highly experienced trainer and facilitator in outdoor education, professional-level scuba instruction, and nationally recognised first aid across recreational, educational, and industry settings. His lifelong commitment to service is recognised through awards including the National Medal and the Police Service Medal.
